Tanglewood Cabin Rental and Deer Crossing Lodge

Large Group Cabin Rentals Near Helen, GA

Finding a private mountain cabin that genuinely accommodates a large group — not a hotel block, not separate Airbnb units across different addresses, but one property where everyone stays together — is harder than it sounds. Our Large Group Properties

Property Combinations — Booking Multiple Cabins

All three properties can be booked simultaneously for groups that need combined capacity. Here are the combinations that work best:

  • Deer Crossing Lodge + Forest Haven (sleeps 32): The most popular large group combination. Walking distance between properties, combined 10 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, pavilion and porch as two distinct gathering spaces. Best for family reunions of 25–32 and wedding weekends with overflow guests.
  • Fox Ridge + Forest Haven (sleeps 16): Both sit in Sautee near each other — 8 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 fire pits, and a hot tub at Fox Ridge. Best for groups of 12–16 who want two separate cabin experiences on the same trip.
  • Fox Ridge + Three Bears (sleeps 14): Side by side on Anniversary Lane — 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 hot tubs, 2 fire pits. The easiest logistically since both are on the same driveway lane.
  • All three (sleeps 40): Maximum combined capacity across Deer Crossing Lodge, Fox Ridge, and Forest Haven. Call the office to discuss logistics and availability for full portfolio bookings.

What Large Groups Use These Properties For

Family Reunions

The most common large group booking. Deer Crossing Lodge and Forest Haven together sleep 32 and give different family branches their own sleeping space while sharing the pavilion and porch for group meals and gatherings. The North Georgia mountains in fall are a particularly popular reunion destination.

Corporate Retreats & Off-Sites

The pavilion at Deer Crossing Lodge accommodates presentations, workshops, and group sessions with seating for the full group. Private 2-acre setting means no hotel lobby interruptions, no shared conference space, and no other guests. Everyone stays on-site — no commuting between hotel and venue.

Weddings & Wedding Weekends

Deer Crossing Lodge's wedding package starts from $3,000 and includes a two-night stay, pavilion use, 60 chairs, and 12 tables. The full wedding party stays under one roof — rehearsal dinner Friday, ceremony and reception Saturday, farewell brunch Sunday. See the weddings page for full details.

Church & Community Groups

The lodge and pavilion work well for church retreats, ministry weekends, and community group gatherings. Private setting, full kitchen, and pavilion for group sessions. No resort staff or shared spaces — your group has the property to itself.

Sports Teams & Tournaments

Helen and the surrounding area host several sporting events and tournaments throughout the year. Deer Crossing Lodge provides centralized lodging for teams of up to 24 — closer and more private than hotel blocks in Helen or Gainesville.

Multi-Family Vacations

Fox Ridge and Forest Haven side by side work well for two or three families traveling together who want separate cabins but shared outdoor space. Each family has its own bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen — the fire pits become the shared gathering point in the evenings.

For multi-property bookings, each property is booked and managed separately. Call the office to confirm availability and logistics when booking more than one property at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the largest group Tanglewood can accommodate?

The largest single property is Deer Crossing Lodge at 6 bedrooms and 24 guests. Combined with Forest Haven (4BR/sleeps 8, walking distance) the total on-site capacity is 32. Booking all three large properties — Deer Crossing Lodge, Fox Ridge, and Forest Haven — brings maximum combined capacity to 40 guests across 14 bedrooms.

Can we use Deer Crossing Lodge as an event or meeting venue?

Yes — Deer Crossing Lodge has a covered pavilion that accommodates group gatherings, presentations, ceremonies, and meals. The pavilion is included in both the standard lodge rental and the wedding package. For corporate retreats and off-sites, the combination of on-site lodging and a covered outdoor gathering space eliminates the hotel-plus-venue logistics problem.

How far apart are Fox Ridge and Forest Haven?

Fox Ridge and Three Bears are on the same lane (Anniversary Lane) — effectively side by side. Forest Haven is in a separate location but walking distance from Deer Crossing Lodge. For groups booking Fox Ridge and Forest Haven together, the properties are a short drive apart — not walking distance, but close enough for shared activities.

Is catering available for large group bookings?

Tanglewood does not provide catering directly, but we have relationships with local catering vendors who know the properties and the Sautee Nacoochee area. Call the office and we can provide referrals. All three large group properties have fully equipped kitchens if your group prefers to self-cater.

Are the large group properties pet-friendly?

Yes — Deer Crossing Lodge, Fox Ridge, and Forest Haven all welcome dogs (max 2 per property, no cats, fee applies). Call the office to arrange before arrival.

What is the best time of year for a large group retreat near Helen, GA?

Fall (September through November) is peak season — foliage peaks mid-to-late October and the weather is ideal for outdoor gatherings at the pavilion and fire pits. Spring (April through May) is a strong second choice. Summer works well for groups focused on tubing, waterfall hikes, and outdoor activities. Book well in advance for fall weekends — large group properties fill early.
