Tanglewood Cabin Rental and Deer Crossing Lodge

Creekside Cabin Rentals Near Helen, GA

There's a specific kind of quiet that only happens when you're sitting next to moving water — the sound of a creek running below a fire pit, or waking up in the morning with nothing but birdsong and water in the background. Two of our private cabin rentals near Helen, GA sit directly on private creeks in Sautee Nacoochee Valley: Serenity and Southern Seclusion. Both offer creek access from the property — not "near a creek" or "creek views" — but fire pits, decks, and outdoor living spaces positioned right at the water's edge.

This page covers both creekside properties in detail, the water activities available in the surrounding area, and how to choose the right one for your trip.

What Makes a True Creekside Cabin

A lot of mountain cabin listings describe themselves as "creekside" or "near a creek." Here's the distinction that matters: at Serenity and Southern Seclusion, the fire pit is at the creek — not a short walk away, not visible from the deck, but positioned so you're sitting next to moving water when you're around the fire. The sound of the creek is the background noise of the entire stay.

Both properties also have private creek access — the creek runs through or alongside the property on land Tanglewood manages, not a shared public waterway you have to walk to. Dogs can wade directly from the property. On warm evenings the creek is its own amenity.

Water Activities Near Helen, GA

The Sautee Nacoochee Valley sits at the intersection of several of North Georgia's best water-based activities. All of the following are within easy driving distance of our creekside properties:

Chattahoochee River Tubing — The most iconic Helen summer activity. Outfitters in Downtown Helen rent tubes and shuttle you back upstream. The river runs right through town and the experience is genuinely fun. Seasonal — typically Memorial Day through Labor Day depending on water levels.

Anna Ruby Falls — A double waterfall about 10 minutes from Helen. The trail is 0.4 miles each way, paved, and runs alongside Smith Creek through a dense hardwood cove. One of the best easy waterfall hikes in North Georgia. Dogs on leash welcome.

Raven Cliffs Trail — A moderate 5-mile round trip gorge hike with multiple waterfalls along Dodd Creek. Less crowded than Anna Ruby Falls and more dramatic — the trail winds through a narrow gorge with cascades at multiple points. Dogs on leash welcome.

Unicoi State Park — One mile from Hutch Mountain, Unicoi has a 53-acre lake with a swimming beach (seasonal), kayak and paddleboard rentals, and hiking trails. One of the most visited state parks in Georgia. Dog-friendly on leash throughout.

Dukes Creek Falls — A 150-foot waterfall accessible via a 2-mile round trip trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest. One of the tallest single-drop waterfalls in Georgia. The trail descends into a gorge — moderate difficulty.

Helton Creek Falls — Two tiered waterfalls on a short, easy trail near Blairsville — about 30 minutes from Sautee Nacoochee. A lesser-known alternative to Anna Ruby that's worth the short drive.

Both creekside properties are pet-friendly — dogs welcome at max 2 per booking. Your dog can access the creek directly from the property. A pet fee applies — call (706) 878-3286 to arrange before arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Tanglewood cabins have a private creek?

Serenity and Southern Seclusion both have private creek access directly on the property — fire pits are positioned at the creek. The other 7 Tanglewood properties do not have on-property creeks but are within easy driving distance of the Chattahoochee River, Anna Ruby Falls, Raven Cliffs, and Unicoi State Park lake.

Can I swim in the creek at the cabin?

The creeks at Serenity and Southern Seclusion are mountain creeks — they're cold, clear, and ideal for wading and cooling off, particularly in the warmer months. They are not swimming holes in the traditional sense but are excellent for sitting beside, letting dogs wade, and enjoying the sound and atmosphere.

Is tubing on the Chattahoochee River near the cabins?

Yes — Chattahoochee River tubing is available in Downtown Helen, about 2–5 miles from most Tanglewood properties. Outfitters rent tubes and provide shuttle service back upstream. It's seasonal, typically running Memorial Day through Labor Day depending on water levels.

Are the waterfall trails near Helen dog-friendly?

Yes — Anna Ruby Falls and Raven Cliffs Trail both allow dogs on leash. Unicoi State Park is also dog-friendly throughout. Dukes Creek Falls (in the Chattahoochee National Forest) is generally dog-friendly on leash as well.

What is the best time of year for a creekside cabin near Helen?

All four seasons work well. Spring and summer are ideal for tubing, waterfall hikes, and creek wading. Fall brings spectacular foliage along the creek corridors — the hardwood canopy over the Sautee Nacoochee Valley turns in mid-to-late October. Winter is quiet and genuinely private, with the fire pit and wood-burning fireplace making the creek setting especially atmospheric.

Serenity and Southern Seclusion book quickly — especially for peak weekends in fall and summer. Check availability and book direct.
