Tanglewood Cabin Rental and Deer Crossing Lodge

Your Complete Guide to a Mountain Wedding in North Georgia — Deer Crossing Lodge

There's a moment on the drive out to Deer Crossing Lodge when the road narrows, the trees close in, and the noise of everyday life just stops. If you've been searching for a mountain wedding venue in North Georgia that feels genuinely private — not a banquet hall with a mountain view, but an actual mountain retreat — this is the guide for you.

Deer Crossing Lodge is a 6-bedroom, 4-bathroom lodge on 2 private acres in Sautee Nacoochee Valley, just minutes from Downtown Helen, GA. Since 1980, Tanglewood Cabin Rentals has been hosting guests in these mountains. The lodge accommodates everything from intimate elopements to full weekend celebrations — rehearsal dinner Friday through farewell brunch Sunday — with your entire wedding party staying under one roof.

Why Couples Choose Deer Crossing Lodge

Most North Georgia wedding venues separate where you celebrate from where you sleep. You book the venue, then scramble to find nearby lodging for your wedding party, coordinate two sets of logistics, and spend your wedding weekend shuttling between locations.

Deer Crossing Lodge is different. The venue and the lodging are the same property. Your wedding party arrives Thursday or Friday and doesn't leave until Sunday. The rehearsal dinner happens on the property. The ceremony happens on the property. The reception happens on the property. And when the last toast is made, everyone walks to their room — no shuttle, no driving, no coordinating.

The lodge accommodates up to 24 guests across 6 bedrooms, which covers most wedding parties comfortably. For larger celebrations, Forest Haven — our 4-bedroom family cabin that sleeps 8 — sits walking distance from the lodge and can house overflow guests, bringing your total on-site capacity to 32.

The Venue

The Lodge

6 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, and living spaces designed for large gatherings. The lodge is set on 2 private acres — enough space for an outdoor ceremony, a reception under the pavilion, and still have room for guests to spread out. The property is wooded, private, and quiet in the way that only rural mountain properties can be.

The Pavilion

The pavilion is the centerpiece of outdoor events at Deer Crossing Lodge. Covered and open-air, it comfortably accommodates ceremonies and receptions and provides shelter from afternoon mountain weather — which in North Georgia can arrive without much warning. Tables and chairs are included in the wedding package, so the setup logistics are handled.

The Setting

Sautee Nacoochee Valley sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, surrounded by hardwood forests, rolling hills, and the kind of scenery that makes North Georgia one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in the Southeast. The property is minutes from Anna Ruby Falls, Unicoi State Park, and the Chattahoochee River — backdrop options for photos that no ballroom can match.

The Wedding Package

Planning Your Weekend at Deer Crossing Lodge

The lodge is set up for full weekend celebrations, not just a single-day event. Here's how most couples structure the weekend:

Friday — Arrival & Rehearsal Dinner

Wedding party arrives and settles into the lodge. Check-in is at 4:00 PM. The rehearsal takes place on the property in the late afternoon, followed by a rehearsal dinner under the pavilion or in the lodge's main living and dining areas. No restaurant reservations, no driving — the party starts here and stays here.

Saturday — The Wedding

Ceremony and reception on the property. The pavilion accommodates both, or you can use the open lawn for an outdoor ceremony with the pavilion for the reception. Your photographer has 2 private acres to work with — the wooded lot, the pavilion, the lodge exterior, and the surrounding valley all work as backdrop.

Sunday — Farewell Brunch

Check-out is at 11:00 AM. Sunday morning is yours — coffee on the porch, a slow breakfast in the lodge kitchen, a final walk around the property before everyone heads home. No rush to clear a venue by 10:00 PM Saturday night. The lodge is yours through Sunday morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many guests can Deer Crossing Lodge accommodate?

The lodge sleeps 24 across 6 bedrooms. For wedding parties larger than 24, Forest Haven sits walking distance from the lodge and accommodates an additional 8 guests, bringing total on-site sleeping capacity to 32.

Is the pavilion covered?

Yes — the pavilion is covered, which provides shelter for outdoor ceremonies and receptions regardless of weather. North Georgia mountain weather can be unpredictable, especially in spring and fall, so the covered pavilion is a significant practical advantage over open-air venues.

What's included in the $3,000 package?

Two-night lodge stay (sleeps 24), full use of the lodge and pavilion, 60 chairs, and 12 tables. Catering, wedding cake, and photography are available through preferred vendors at additional cost, payable directly to the vendor.

Can we have pets at the wedding?

Yes — Deer Crossing Lodge is pet-friendly. Dogs are welcome (max 2, no cats, fee applies). Call the office to arrange before arrival if you're bringing pets.

What's the closest airport?

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is approximately 90 miles from Sautee Nacoochee — about a 90-minute drive depending on Atlanta traffic. Gainesville, GA (about 30 miles) is the closest regional airport for private aviation.

When is the best time of year for a mountain wedding?

All four seasons work at Deer Crossing Lodge, but fall (late September through November) is peak season in North Georgia for a reason — the foliage in the Sautee Nacoochee Valley is spectacular, temperatures are mild, and the light is exceptional for photos. Spring (April through May) is a close second. Book well in advance for fall weekends — they go early.
